Updated: Heparin Syringe Recall June 6, 2012

Additional lot numbers are now included in the voluntary recall of heparin syringes manufactured by Vygon.  See the new list of affected lot numbers here.

Hemophilia of Georgia has received notice of a voluntary recall of heparin syringes manufactured by Vygon. Vygon issued the recall with the knowledge of the FDA after samples of the syringes failed potency testing. This means the syringes may not contain a strong enough amount of heparin. Heparin syringes are commonly used by people with ports and PICC lines.

The affected lot numbers were distributed by HoG and Beacon pharmacies and efforts are underway to contact pharmacy customers. If you have heparin syringes that you received from HoG or Beacon pharmacies, check the lot numbers and do not use any with numbers on the recall list. Contact the HoG or Beacon pharmacy for a replacement. HoG and Beacon are now providing heparin syringes manufactured by a different company that is not affected by this recall. You can read the original recall letter with the lot numbers here.
