Camp Wannaklot 2014 - the Aloha Spirit

The campers, counselors and staff at Camp Wannaklot displayed the Aloha spirit during camp this summer. Aloha is a value, one of unconditional love. Each day, we learned new words that exemplified the value of Aloha. We learned about Mālama which is the value of stewardship. We practiced ‘Ike loa which is the value of learning. We learned to say Mahalo (thank you), and about the value of Kākou (communication). Camp is where one’s Kuleana or personal sense of responsibility has a chance to grow. Ultimately, we grew closer as an ‘Ohana (family).
Camp Wannaklot celebrated 21 years of serving children who have hemophilia or other inherited bleeding disorders. Our ‘Ohana of dedicated volunteers continues to grow. As one counselor, who was once a camper put it, “This is my home. These are my brothers and sisters. I can’t imagine a summer without my family.” Camp Wannaklot is made possible by the volunteer camp counselors, medical staff and HoG staff that commit to making a difference in the lives of our campers. We would also like to thank the many donors and sponsors who give financial support to Camp Wannaklot.
