Hemophilia of Georgia to Host Inaugural Lawrenceville Trot to Clot Walk & Run

Published May 19, 2014

Hemophilia of Georgia will host the Inaugural Lawrenceville Trot to Clot Walk and Run on Saturday, June 7th at Coolray Field.  Registration for this new 5k walk and run includes a ticket to a Gwinnett Braves game on Sunday, June 8. Receive a Jerzees Sport, moisture wicking, ultra soft t-shirt and goodie bag while supplies last. We will celebrate Hemophilia of Georgia Day at the park so come out in your new Trot to Clot t-shirt on Sunday and visit our silent auction table featuring Atlanta Braves items.

This fun, family-centered event will raise money to fund Camp Wannaklot, the only camp in Georgia that provides children who have hemophilia or other inherited bleeding disorders the opportunity to enjoy a traditional camp experience.  During this fun-filled week, campers make new friends, learn about their bleeding disorders and share new experiences.   Register early to guarantee you will receive an ultra-soft Trot to Clot T-shirt.  Sign up today as a walker, runner or team.  Prices increase on race day.  Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female runners, the top two individual fundraisers and for the most creative team t-shirt. There is also a free Tot Trot for kids 5 and under.  Invite your family and friends to come out and cheer you on at this outstanding charity event.

Children who are born with severe hemophilia often get three infusions of clotting factor medication every week.  That’s more than 2,500 infusions by the time they grow up at an average cost of $150,000 annually.  These kids aren’t able to play contact sports like football because the risk of injury is too great.  At Camp Wannaklot, held at Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, GA, they can ride the giant swing, climb the rock wall, and go down the zip line under careful supervision of trained counselors.  It gives children with inherited bleeding disorders a special and safe place to spend part of their summer and to have fun.  More importantly, the kids learn how to give themselves those infusions of clotting factor so they aren’t dependent on their parents or nurses to get the medication they need to stay healthy.

According to Kirstin Downie, Hemophilia of Georgia Director of Development, “participants in the Trot to Clot Walk and Run help to ensure that Camp Wannaklot will continue to offer kids who have bleeding disorders the opportunity to share new experiences, make new friends, and develop the skills they need to become independent.  We hope to raise $20,000 for Camp Wannaklot through the Lawrenceville Trot to Clot Walk and Run event this year.”

Hemophilia of Georgia thanks our presenting sponsors of the Trot to Clot Walk and Run events: Baxter International, CSL Behring, Pfizer, and Novo Nordisk. We would also like to thank Octapharma for their support in Lawrenceville.
