HoG Volunteer and Donor Appreciation Reception

Hemophilia of Georgia honored volunteers and donors at the annual Volunteer and Donor Appreciation Reception on April 19 at Villa Christina restaurant in Atlanta. More than 125 donors, volunteers, and HoG staff members attended the event.
During the reception, several awards were presented. A Lifetime Service Award was presented to retiring board member Bob Carton for his many years of dedicated service. In addition to several terms on the Board of Directors, Bob also served as a camp counselor and as a volunteer at the auction.
Lazer Spot was recognized as Hemophilia of Georgia’s New Corporate Partner of the Year. Lazer Spot is a corporate sponsor of the 2012 Trot to Clot Walk and Run. Adam and Melissa Newsome accepted the award on behalf of Lazer Spot.
Thirteen-year-old John J. was named Hemophilia of Georgia’s New Volunteer of the Year. Last year John and his father were the featured speakers at a breakfast on Hemophilia Day at the Capitol and shared how hemophilia had affected their lives. They were joined at the breakfast by their state senator, Jesse Stone. John and his family also shared their story in HoG’s advocacy video and at an advocacy session at Family Camp.
The Camp Wannaklot Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Beth McCracken for her many years of service to camp. In addition to teaching cooking sessions throughout camp each year, Beth also serves on the Camp Wannaklot working group, the golf committee, and the walk committee. She has also volunteered at Family Camp and the Teen Retreat and helps in the HoG office occasionally by packing boxes in preparation for camp.
Polly Adams was named Hit ’Em for Hemophilia Golf Tournament Volunteer of the Year in recognition for serving as a volunteer for more than 13 years.
The Outstanding Hemophilia of Georgia Volunteer award was presented to Debbie A. for many years of dedicated service in numerous areas including Camp Wannaklot, the golf tournament, family camp. Debbie serves on the Camp Wannaklot working group and is usually the first to say yes when a call goes out for volunteers. She leads arts and crafts at camp and family camp and has worn the HoG mascot costume on many occasions.
Finally, several people were recognized for providing more than twenty years of volunteer service to Hemophilia of Georgia. These longest serving volunteers included Bob Carton, Elaine and John Mitchell, Arthur Herman, Hikie Allen, Patti Walsh, Judy Miller, Judy Ward, and Georgia Herman.
