NHF Medical Advisory #415 Baxter Announces Labeling Error on Sterile Water

November 17, 2011

Some of the Recombinate clotting factor distributed by the pharmacy includes sterile water that actually expires before the expiration date printed on the vial.   This is a labeling error by Baxter and only affects the expiration date.   The sterile water is safe to use until the expiration date printed on the factor.

When mixing your clotting factor with the sterile water, always go by the expiration date on the factor, not the date on the water.   Please don’t save the sterile water included in the package of Recombinate to use at a later date.

Please see NHF Medical Advisory #415 - Baxter Announces Labeling Error on Sterile Water on the NHF website for more information and call the pharmacy if you have any questions.
