The Hemophilia of Georgia Junior Board of Directors met for our annual retreat January 11 - 13 to come up with our plans for 2019 and onward. Attending our retreat were the seven members of the Junior Board, three members rolling off the Junior Board, and two of our advisors.

Starting on Friday, we welcomed the three new members to the board and did membership training, held elections for new officers, and got to know each other more. We also completed the True Colors personality test to discover each other’s strengths and weaknesses with the goal of better communication among board members.

On Saturday, we received development training from Vic McCarty of McCarty Consulting.  Vic is a former HoG staff person who has expertise in fundraising and is familiar with our mission.  We focused on our goals as a new board. Some of our training on Saturday included communication, fundraising, and project planning. Another part was role playing the process of asking for donations.  Our goal is to become comfortable in asking both our personal and professional relationships to donate to or sponsor the Junior Board of Directors.

On Sunday we received training from Ruby Compton from Ruby Outdoors on ways to build our social media and implement our campaigns. We learned several techniques for effective storytelling within our campaigns. Following that, we put what we learned to the test by separating into two teams and creating our own social media posts.  We shared our process with the group. The last thing we did was organize our thoughts and plans and create a timeline for the steps that go into our projects. Once we had everything written out, we were very happy with the results.

The Junior Board is very excited for everything we have planned moving forward and cannot wait to share our work with the community. If you would like to keep up to date with us, please follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/HoGJuniorBoard.
