Five of Hemophilia of Georgia’s Leaders in Training (LIT) teens were selected to participate as a team in Georgia Teen Institute (GTI) June 14 - 17.  GTI 2011 brought together over 390 youth leaders from across the state for four days of leadership skill building at Emory University’s Oxford College in Covington.  Offered by GUIDE (Gwinnett United in Drug Education) GTI provides youth leaders an opportunity to develop lifelong empowering skills in a supportive and fun environment.

During the four days of GTI, youth leaders participated in workshops, activities and challenges designed to help them develop skills and strategies that will be useful throughout their lifetimes.  In addition, each team of youth leaders at GTI worked in group meetings with their adult advisors to develop a plan to address an issue or need they identified in their communities.

HoG’s youth leaders developed an action plan that will hopefully encourage more teens to wear their MedicAlert® ID.  Because of the project they created, the HoG youth leaders received an award as the team “Most Likely to Save a Life.”  The teens were also interviewed by a local newspaper and performed during the closing ceremony!

The LITs had a very productive week. They started working on their project and will continue to work on it during camp and throughout the rest of the year. Stay tuned for announcements on Facebook as the LITs will need your help to implement their project.
