More than 200 golfers and dozens of volunteers participated in the 29th annual Hit 'Em for Hemophilia Golf Tournament on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Château Élan Winery and Resort in Braselton, Georgia.  Sponsored by Hemophilia of Georgia in partnership with The Atlanta Braves, the tournament raised more than $175,000 for bleeding disorders research.

Tournament participants enjoyed a full day of golf on the beautiful courses at Château Élan.  Corporate sponsors at the Platinum, Gold and Silver levels were paired with local and sports celebrities from the Atlanta Braves and other professional sports organizations including players, alumni, managers, coaches, and announcers. Individual golfers and foursomes also participated in the tournament and helped raise money for research for a cure for hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders.

At the end of the day, the golfers, sports celebrities, guests, and sponsors attended the tournament reception, which featured a raffle and silent and live auctions.

The first item in the live auction was a queen-size quilt in a golf motif hand-crafted by Alma J. and introduced for auction by her son John.  The quilt was purchased for $400 by Moe Shafer, a long-time Hit 'Em for Hemophilia Golf Tournament sponsor. He later asked Alma and John to autograph the quilt.  According to Mr. Shafer, “I was very moved when young John stepped up before our group and told his story about his fight against Hemophilia.  When I heard that his mother had made the quilt in John’s honor I knew that I had to have it and it will always have a special place in our home.”

Another very popular auction item was a Dale Murphy Atlanta Braves jersey from the 1970s.  Dale Murphy personally autographed the jersey for the highest bidder, Mike Hamby.

Hemophilia of Georgia thanks all of the golfers, celebrity attendees, and volunteers for their help in raising much-needed funds for bleeding disorders research.
