Board Member Spotlight: Meet Tom Singh

After reading the subject of this article, you might just be saying to yourself, “This must be the third Board Member Spotlight I’ve read this year.” And, you’d be right! So, without further ado, it is my pleasure to introduce you to Tom Singh; our newest Board Member.

I was first introduced to Tom Singh on February 25, 2014 at the HoG office. Tom, who was recruited by a long-time Board Member, arrived at our office in the company of four current Board Members to receive a two-hour orientation by key staff members. It didn’t take us long to realize that Tom had done his homework in preparation for the meeting. I can honestly say that I’d never heard a Board candidate ask so many questions about the organization…..from the variety of our clients’ bleeding disorders, to the programs and services offered by HoG, to its finances, (Tom is employed by Merrill Lynch), to research for a cure, and to how the Affordable Care Act might impact our clients and the agency.

Suffice it to say that since his appointment, Tom has met his commitment to be present at each scheduled Board Meeting and conference call. In fact, Tom also volunteered to serve on the Board’s CEO Search Committee (a group composed of five current Board Members), who are playing a major role in the search for HoG’s next CEO. This past year, Tom also took the time out of his busy schedule to represent our Board of Directors by attending the agency’s Volunteer Reception and golf tournament. In fact, while at the golf tournament, he provided me with the name and business card of a friend he had recruited to help with next year’s Camp Wannaklot.

Tom is a graduate of the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business with a minor in Health Science. He has worked at Merrill Lynch for 14 years (having interned with them while a college student) and is currently the Director of their Duluth office. He also runs an eight-person Wealth Management Group called Rogan, Singh & Associates that handles the financial affairs for a small group of families around the country.

On a personal note, Tom and his wife, Jessica, live in Dunwoody with their two children; ages 6 and 2. His hobbies (aside from keeping up with his children), include being a history buff, travel, research nerd (his words, not mine…), voracious reader of non-fiction, all kinds of music, golf, a new found passion for cooking and fitness (not sure if I listed those last two in proper order….). He is passionate about helping our nation's troops and has raised money for Military Outreach Programs which help veterans returning from battle attain college degrees. All in all, I’d say Tom is a most welcome addition to our Board of Directors. Wouldn’t you?
