The Georgia Hemophilia Advisory Board* was formed in 2011 and consists of Hemophilia of Georgia employees, Hemophilia Treatment Center staff, and consumers.  Its mission is to provide expert advice to the state on health and insurance policies, plans, and programs that impact individuals with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders. The board’s purpose is to foster policies and make recommendations that enable people with bleeding disorders to get access to needed therapies and medication and to educate policy makers about bleeding disorders, with the hope that advocating for the bleeding disorder community will be easier.

The Board held its quarterly meeting in February 2018. Discussion and meeting topics included:

• Updating and submitting the annual report (due to the Georgia General Assembly at the beginning of each year), which proposes changes to policies and programs that affect people with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders.
• Revising the Hemophilia Standards of Care.
• Recommending community-based initiatives that increase awareness of care and treatment for people living with bleeding disorders.
• Advising the Drug Utilization Review Board regarding hemophilia factor products.

The Board will hold its next quarterly meeting in April 2018.

*The Georgia Hemophilia Advisory Board was created by O.C.G.A § 31-1-12 in 2011.
