Step 23: Check for a blood return

Check for a blood return after every 5 to 10 cc of factor you inject.
Pull back slowly on the plunger of the syringe. Blood will enter the tubing if you are still in the vein.
If there is no blood return, remove the needle and press down on the site. Try again at another site with a new needle. Use the factor as soon as possible. Factor that has been mixed up should not sit for hours before infusing. When in doubt, check with your HTC.

Caution: Do not pull back on the plunger so much that the blood comes back into the syringe.
