Step 1: Check the factor bottles for dose and expiration date.

 

Guidelines:

  • Be sure you have the right type of factor, either factor VIII or factor IX.  Factor VIII bottles may say “AHF” or “Antihemophilic Factor”.  Check the dosage (the number of units of factor) to see if it is correct.
  • Be sure the expiration date has not passed.  Use the bottles with the earliest expiration date first.
  • If you have questions about figuring your dose, use the dosage calculator.
  • If you have the wrong type of factor, or the expiration date has passed, do not use the factor.  Check with your HTC about what to do.
