What is the purpose of this program?
The program was established to strengthen Georgia's bleeding disorder care by supporting hematologist recruitment and retention and helping ensure access to specialized care for individuals and families across Georgia affected by bleeding disorders.

Do I need to practice at a Georgia Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC)?
Yes. Applicants must practice at an eligible Georgia Hemophilia Treatment Center and satisfy all program requirements.

Can physicians currently completing fellowship training apply?
No. Eligibility requirements vary based on training, licensure, and employment status. Applicants must be currently employed at a Georgia HTC. Please review the Eligibility page.

What types of educational debt may be considered?
Applicants will be asked to report undergraduate educational debt, medical school debt, and other qualifying educational debt as part of the application process.

Can I apply if I have received assistance from another loan repayment or loan forgiveness program?
Yes. Applicants must disclose any prior or current assistance received from loan repayment programs, loan forgiveness programs, scholarships, grants, or other educational support programs.

What is the difference between the Metro and Non-Metro Service Tracks?

How do I know which service track applies to me?
Your service track is determined by the location of the Georgia Hemophilia Treatment Center where you practice.

What information will I need to complete the application?
Applicants should be prepared to provide:

Will I need to provide supporting documentation?
We reserve the right to ask for supporting documentation. Applicants advancing in the selection process may be asked to provide additional documentation to verify educational debt, employment, licensure, or other eligibility requirements.

How are applications evaluated?
Eligible applications are reviewed using program priorities and established selection criteria designed to support the program's hematologists recruitment goals. Considerations may include commitment to bleeding disorder care, workforce needs, practice location, service track, educational debt burden, and alignment with program goals.

Does submitting an application guarantee funding?
No. Funding is limited, and applicants will be selected through a competitive review process. Submission of an application does not guarantee selection for an award.

Is participation in the program renewable?
Selected participants should refer to current program policies regarding renewals, continued eligibility, and future funding opportunities. Renewal funding, if available, is subject to program requirements and available funding.

What happens if I am unable to fulfill my service commitment?
Participants are expected to meet all program requirements and service commitments. Additional information regarding participant obligations and program policies will be provided to selected applicants.

When will loan repayment assistance be distributed?
Disbursements begin after all required documentation has been reviewed and approved and according to the timeline established for each application cycle.
