Personalized Nursing Support Leads to Patient Empowerment

By Stephanie Matz, Vice President of Clinical Services

Published July 30, 2025

Hollie, an HoG nurse, provided self-infusion training support for a patient, Ashley, referred by the HTC who receives medication through a third-party specialty pharmacy (CVS). Although Ashley was unable to use HoG’s pharmacy due to insurance limitations, she expressed a strong desire to learn self-infusion to better manage her heavy menstrual bleeding and gain more flexibility in her schedule as a working mother.

Ashley’s assigned nurse from the outside pharmacy was not trained in self-infusion instruction and could not assist. Nurse Hollie stepped in to provide hands-on training over the course of several sessions. Ashley was highly motivated, and with Hollie’s support and guidance, she was able to successfully infuse independently for the first time and has continued to do so on her own. Ashley stated, “I am deeply grateful for the time, support, and education provided to me through HoG’s clinical services.”

Ashley’s story highlights the value of HoG’s personalized nursing support and the organization’s commitment to empowering patients—even when they are unable to use HoG’s pharmacy—through education and compassionate care.
