25 Campers Earn Butterfly Award

Published August 11, 2015

Horizons in Hemophilia, August 2015

By Michelle Lowe, RN, Director of Nursing

Camp Wannaklot was another big success. Many campers who are reluctant to learn to self-infuse overcome those fears at camp. While in this group setting, they begin to realize they are not alone in this venture. When they see other campers learning to “stick” themselves they seem to conquer their fears and start thinking “I can do this.”

We are very proud of the 25 campers who achieved this goal at camp this year. The Butterfly Award is given to those campers who stick themselves for the first time or who are in the process of learning self-infusion. The following campers were given the award the last day of camp: Gage B., Bairon B., Ann B., Grayson B., Leo C., Benjamin C., Kolbie C., Andrew D., Timothy G., Eli G., Sheldon G., Lucas H., Jordan H., Valentino I., Joshua L., Tristian M., Jaylen M., Blake P., Payton P., Stone W., Rodney W., Edward W., Alec S., Tim S., and Rickey T.

Those campers who continue to infuse their factor by themselves at home can get checked by their Outreach Nurse and be inducted into the Mighty Sticker Club. Their photos will be taken for the HoG newsletter and they will earn a gift card and certificate of completion.

Congratulations to all these campers who received this award—your hard work has helped you become more independent. See you next summer at Camp!
