A New Mighty Sticker Club Member

Published December 10, 2009

Horizons in Hemophilia, December 2009

By Mary Ann Tyler, Outreach Nurse

Dylan Mightly StickerIn November Dylan was inducted into the Mighty Sticker Club as he successfully and correctly demonstrated that he can now mix and infuse factor on his own! Dylan has come a long way since his first attempt at age 7 to learn the self-infusion process. Back then he was armed with his shin-kicking cowboy boots a quick foot and he wanted very little to do with needles. After the great teamwork of several HoG outreach nurses, the Hemophilia Treatment Center staff, Dylan's school nurse, and Dylan's willingness he is now a proud member of the Mighty Sticker Club.

Dylan was awarded a certificate of completion and a Factor Fido watch and he proudly posed for his picture in the newsletter. Great job Dylan!

Learning self-infusion or home infusion can save a family time and money by eliminating costly visits to the emergency room for treatment. It also helps kids and adults reduce the risk of injury, pain and joint deterioration by allowing them to treat right away, rather than prolonging the bleeding time. If you would like more information on learning to infuse, please contact your treatment center or HoG outreach nurse.
