July 20, 2012

The 30th Annual Hit 'Em for Hemophilia Golf Tournament will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at the Manor Golf and Country Club and Echelon in Alpharetta, Georgia. Sponsored by Hemophilia of Georgia in partnership with the Atlanta Braves, the Hit 'Em for Hemophilia Golf Tournament is recognized as one of the premier charity golfing events in the United States. Since 1983 this tournament has raised more than $12 million for research for a cure for inherited bleeding disorders including hemophilia and von Willebrand Disease. Over the years treatment has improved but there is still no cure.

According to Tournament Chairman Bill Acree of the Atlanta Braves, “this event contributes to very important medical research and the Braves organization is proud to be able to help.  Hemophilia of Georgia and the Hit 'Em for Hemophilia Golf Tournament are very meaningful to me and I encourage everyone to participate as individual golfers or as corporate sponsors.”

Tournament participants enjoy a full day of golf followed by an awards reception, raffle, and silent and live auctions.  Corporate sponsors at the Platinum, Gold and Silver levels will be paired with celebrities from the Atlanta Braves and other professional sports organizations including players, alumni, managers, coaches, and announcers.

Customized tournament corporate sponsorship packages are available for small businesses as well as large corporations.  In addition to corporate sponsorship, individuals and foursomes are encouraged to participate in the tournament. The tournament also features a Golf 101 for Women seminar and clinic for women who want to start playing golf.  All participants including sponsors, individual golfers, and Golf 101 attendees are invited to attend the awards reception, live and silent auctions and raffle following the tournament.  Details are available online at www.hog.org/golf or by contacting Vic McCarty, Director of Development, (770) 518-8272 or vamccarty@hog.org.

About Hemophilia
Hemophilia is a hereditary genetic disorder in which a person’s blood is not able to clot normally. In normal blood, proteins called clotting factors work together to form a clot whenever bleeding occurs. The person with hemophilia lacks or doesn’t have enough of a certain clotting factor so the blood can’t make a clot.  Hemophilia is a very rare disorder, affecting about 17,000 people in the United States.  People with hemophilia stop bleeding by taking an injection of the clotting factor that is missing from their blood.  However, the clotting factor used to treat hemophilia is very expensive.
