Fun, Learning, and Cooler Weather at HoG’s Fall Family Camp!

By Kristi Fulford, Director of Camp and Client Events

Published September 29, 2022

On the weekend of September 16th, 115 people from 20 families attended Hemophilia of Georgia’s Fall Family Camp at Camp Twin Lakes (CTL) in Rutledge, Georgia. The cooler weather provided families with a perfect atmosphere for outside activities as well as a peaceful, relaxing, and fun-filled weekend.

Families were given the opportunity to participate in hands-on educational activities facilitated by HoG’s Director of Health Education, Nurses, and Social Workers. Activities included: a clotting game, infusion training, and fitness game. Also, the National Hemophilia Foundation’s empowerment workshops engaged families and teens in fun, learning activities on independence and management of bleeding disorder treatments and celebrating failures for greater success!

On Friday evening after dinner, families were offered the opportunity to engage in educational games, card games, cornhole, and an evening campfire. Families had the entire day on Saturday as well as Sunday morning to enjoy all the activities offered by Camp Twin Lakes such as archery, drumming, swimming, fishing, playing mini-golf, paddle boating, visiting the farm, and climbing the tower.

On Saturday evening, families gathered to complete the Family Camp Amazing Race. Families completed nine challenges along the way towards the finish line. At each challenge station, they did activities like creating a family banner and cheer, playing with the giant parachute, building the tallest spaghetti tower and more. Once the challenge is completed, they answered bleeding disorder trivia questions to get the clue for the next challenge station.  It was fun and heartwarming to see families competing and bonding together throughout the Amazing Race. Family bonds are one of the many benefits of HoG’s Family Camp. The next HoG Family Camp will be in the spring. Watch your mail for an invitation and sign up quickly!
