HoG Welcomes a New Outreach Nurse and Two New Social Workers

Published September 30, 2016

By: Ruth Brown, VP of Programs

You may notice a few new faces around Hemophilia of Georgia. We are very excited to welcome Sonya Hardin, Jacob Sobel and Lashon Wells to the HoG family. Each of them brings a wealth of experience to make sure that HoG clients continue to receive top-notch care.

Sonya recently joined our Outreach Nursing team. Although she was born in New Jersey, Sonya was raised in Columbus, Georgia, even earning her degree from Columbus State University. From a young age, Sonya knew that she wanted to be a nurse but decided to pursue an initial career in business. However, her life was transformed and her passion for nursing was realized when she helped care for her best friend during her battle with breast cancer. During the time that she was caring for her friend, Sonya promised her that she would attend nursing school. Two years after her friend’s passing, she made good on that promise. Sonya describes it as, “the best decision that I ever made because I absolutely love nursing!”

In addition to nursing, Sonya also enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, shopping, camping, relaxing on the beach and watching the Georgia Bulldogs.

Jacob Sobel recently joined the Hemophilia of Georgia Social Work team. Originally from Norcross, Georgia, Jacob has truly traveled the world, including making stops in Daegu, South Korea and Riobamba, Ecuador to teach English.

However, a strong family tradition drew Jacob into the social work field. In fact, both his grandfather and mom hold a Master of Social Work degree. Jacob joined this lineage by recently earning his Master of Social Work from the University of Georgia. He is also a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW.)

When he’s not visiting clients or enjoying time with families at Family Camp, Jacob enjoys mountain biking, hiking, traveling, indulging in delicious food on Buford Highway and spending time with family and friends.

Another native Georgian, Lashon Wells is the newest member of the HoG Social Work team. Lashon chose to be a social worker after spending time with her friend’s mom at the Department of Family and Children Services. Of the experience, she states, “I enjoyed seeing how she interacted with the families and officials of Macon.” After earning her undergraduate degree at Georgia Southwestern State University, Lashon completed her master’s degree at Savannah State University and currently holds her LMSW.

Lashon brings her passion for social work to HoG, describing her favorite parts of the job as not only working with her client families but learning from them as well.

In her spare time, Lashon enjoys reading, racing cars and scrapbooking.

Welcome to the HoG family, Sonya, Jacob, and Lashon! We’re absolutely thrilled to have you join us.
