School Inservice Presentations

By Ruth Brown, Vice President of Programs

Published June 30, 2017

Back to school kidsIt's hard to believe that soon it will be time to think about school starting again.  As part of Hemophilia of Georgia's services, our nurses provide educational presentations about bleeding disorders to schools or day care centers.

Often school employees are uninformed and are unsure how to recognize or manage medical emergencies related to bleeding disorders.  Our nurses can give school employees the basics, answer their questions, and give them the reassurance they need to successfully care for children with bleeding disorders. We can help them know when to call parents.  We can give them literature on important topics such as discipline or safe sports.

Parents are welcome to attend these presentations, called school “inservices."  If you would like your child's school or day care center to have an inservice, please call your Hemophilia of Georgia nurse with your request.  If you are unsure which nurse to call, please call Samantha Carter at (770) 518-8272, and she will direct your request to the nurse serving your area.  Either Samantha or your nurse will provide you with a form to give us permission to contact the school or day care center on your behalf.

If you prefer, your nurse will send you a packet of basic information about your child's bleeding disorder and you can present this packet to the school personnel.

We are happy to do all we can to ensure that your child has a safe, happy, and successful year.
