Why Keep a Treatment Log/Calendar?

By Resham Sahijram, PharmD, Vice President of Pharmacy Operations

At Hemophilia of Georgia’s last Spring Family Camp, our staff provided tips and important educational information about keeping a treatment log.  Bleeding disorders are chronic conditions. It is important to track chronic conditions to better manage them and receive the best care possible. Keeping accurate records of bleeds, infusions, and other medications can help identify patterns and help your care provider determine if you need a change in treatment, thereby preventing future problems. Additionally, most insurance companies require treatment logs for reimbursement.

When tracking your treatment in your log/calendar, be sure to show the day and reason you treated, the name of the medication, the dosage, and for factor concentrate, include the lot number. Also, remember to take or send copies to your HTC.

Completed treatment calendars are also helpful for disability claims and insurance issues to demonstrate treatment is being followed.
