World Hemophilia Day 2015: Building a Family of Support

Every year on April 17, World Hemophilia Day is observed around the world to increase awareness of hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders. This is a critical effort with an ultimate goal of ensuring better diagnosis and access to care for the millions who have a rare bleeding disorder and find themselves without access to treatment. There are 6.9 million people in the world with a bleeding disorder and yet 75% of them aren’t even aware of it.
A significant amount of care, support, and advocacy is done through extended families, which come in various forms: medical teams, friends, colleagues and immediate relatives. These communities share the ability to come together in large numbers to help improve people’s lives.
World Hemophilia Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness and increase support for those living with an inherited bleeding disorder.
