Leaders in Training – Super Heroes in Action!

HoG’s GTI participants: Louis, Chayse, Josie,
Shantrice, Robert, Mary Ann, Deniece,
and GTI team facilitator Savannah.

HoG selected four of its Leaders in Training to participate in this year’s Georgia Teen Institute (GTI).  During four days in June, GTI brought together youth leaders from across the state for leadership skill building at Emory University’s Oxford College in Covington, Georgia.

GTI had a super hero theme this year and HoG was well represented by our Generation of Heroes. Our teens had the opportunity to develop lifelong leadership skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Hosted by GUIDE (Gwinnett United in Drug Education) the LITs participated in workshops, activities and challenges designed to help them develop skills and strategies that will be useful throughout their lifetime.

In addition, each youth leadership team at GTI worked with their adult advisors to develop an action plan to address an issue or need they have identified in their community. HoG LITs developed a plan to educate the community on bleeding disorders and to empower all HoG youth to be hands-on in managing their bleeding disorder.

HoG’s youth leaders began working on their plan at GTI and will continue to do so at Camp Wannaklot. Because of the project they created the HoG youth leaders received the “Magnetron Award.”  Check out the blog the teens wrote about their experience at GTI and stay tuned for announcements on Facebook and Twitter as the LITs implement their project.
