Xyntha Solufuse Now Available

Published November 11, 2011

Horizons in Hemophilia, November 2011

By Leigh Carpenter, RPh, Director of Pharmacy

Pfizer recently announced the availability of Xyntha in a prefilled dual-chamber syringe.  The recombinant factor VIII product will now be called Xyntha Solofuse.  The factor VIII and diluent come preloaded in an all-in-one device.  Patients will no longer need a transfer step to mix the factor and diluent.  Xyntha Solofuse is currently available in 1000IU, 2000IU, and 3000IU.  Currently, the FDA has not approved the Solofuse device for the 250IU and 500IU sizes.  All doses of Xyntha, except the 3000IU, will continue to be supplied with the Rapid Reconstitution (R2) Kit.  If a patient’s dose is made up of one Solufuse syringe kit and one R2 vial Kit, they can be combined.  Multiple Solufuse syringes can be combined as well for higher doses (a Luer to Luer-Lock syringe adaptor is required).

Both dosing option devices for Xyntha should be stored in the refrigerator at 36 to 46 degrees F.  Xyntha may also be stored at room temperature no higher than 77 degrees Fahrenheit for up to 3 months; until the expiration date.  The product cannot be returned to refrigerated storage after room temperature storage.  Once reconstituted with diluents, the factor must be administered within three hours.  If you have any questions about Xyntha, please call the pharmacy.
