Voluntary Recall of GRIPPER® Needles
RECALL NOTICE: On July 11, 2019, Smiths Medical issued a voluntary recall for specific lots of individual GRIPPER® Needles and GRIPPER® Needles within PORT-A-CATH® Trays manufactured between June 11, 2018, and Feb. 21, 2019. Smiths Medical became aware that certain individual GRIPPER® Needles and GRIPPER® Needles within PORT-A-CATH® Trays may contain an occluded, or blocked, needle.
If an occlusion in the GRIPPER® Needle is present, the product will need to be replaced to allow an infusion procedure to proceed. This may lead to a delay in the initiation of therapy.
Smiths Medical has received no reports of deaths or serious injuries related to this issue.
The HoG and Beacon pharmacies only carry the individual GRIPPER® Needles and not the PORT-A-CATH® Trays. However, all needle sizes stocked by HoG and Beacon pharmacies are included on the recall list. We will be supplying our clients with replacement needles as soon as possible.
