Step 25: Remove the needle and drop it in the sharps disposal container
Guidelines:
- Gently remove the needle, holding it at the same angle.
- Do not hold or push down on the infusion site as you remove the needle. The point of the needle could damage the vein.
- Drop the needle and syringe into the sharps disposal container right away. This way no one will accidentally get stuck by the needle.
- If a person helping with the infusion is pricked by a used needle, wash the wound and call the doctor. The doctor may want to order medicine to prevent an infection.
